Cabinet Refinishing
Finishing cabinets is an art. Cabinetry generally encompasses more space in a kitchen than do visible walls. Hence, they are the primary attention grabber. An attractive finish on your cabinetry is essential for a beautiful kitchen.
There are many options -- more than you may know.
Painting - Standard white is probably the most common, and often we simply spruce up the existing with a fresh coat of paint. Maybe because white is so common, I prefer doing other things. One of my recent favorites was painting cabinets with Ben Moore's Bronzetone. The kitchen had ample sunlight and nine-foot ceilings so it worked very well.
Staining - For stained cabinets, a fresh coat of polyurethane can go a long way. If the finish is marred or worn or a new color is desired, applying a coat of gel stain and polyurethane can add new life.
Specialty - The most attractive cabinet finishes I've seen and finished have a combination of elements. Two different stain colors, a base and a wash, add interest and depth. My favorite method begins with a base of paint (many color options, regular or metallic) then has a stain or paint wash applied followed by a coat of polyurethane.
